Christian Bale is set to play Moses in Ridley Scott’s retelling of the story of the biblical hero, according to Deadline. The suggestion follows reports last week that Steven Spielberg has left rival Moses project Gods and Kings, with Oscar-winning Life of Pi director Ang Lee tipped to replace him.

Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox is moving forward apace with its take on Moses, which is titled Exodus, as confusion surrounds the future of rival studio Warner Bros’s proposed version. Bale is being lined up to star and Scott’s American Gangster screenwriter Steve Zaillian has signed on to do a rewrite. The US blog says Scott could make it his next project as director after completing work on The Counselor, his forthcoming thriller based on novelist Cormac McCarthy’s debut screenplay.

Spielberg’s Moses film was previously described as an epic biopic of the Israelite leader in a gritty Braveheart-meets-Saving-Private-Ryan style.Scott, meanwhile, was expected to plump for a detailed reworking which would focus on the minutiae of his subject’s life, such as the leader’s relationship with Pharaoh Rameses II, as well as more famous episodes.

The most famous Hollywood retelling of the Moses story is the 1956 Cecil B DeMille epic The Ten Commandments, which starred Charlton Heston in the lead role and was one of the highest grossing films of its era. It received seven Academy award nominations including best picture, and also won the Oscar for best visual effects, thanks largely to its famous parting of the Red Sea scene.

Given the history of Moses on the big screen, both films are likely to require enormous budgets. There is therefore the strong possibility of one movie’s backers withdrawing should their project find itself lagging behind in the race to multiplexes. It has happened before to some well-established film-makers, notably Baz Luhrmann, whose Alexander the Great biopic was canned in the wake of Oliver Stone’s 2004 film Alexander hitting cinemas.

In yet another snapped on set picture from an untitled project helmed by Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell. (remember, we spotted Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams not too long ago), the Dark Knight Rises character was photographed looking extremely unlike himself while shooting a scene with costar Adams.

Maybe it was the ’70s-style suit comprised of loose khaki trousers, a white shirt, mustard-colored striped tie and a forest green jacket, but we’re going to put it on that greasy combover Bale’s rocking—or at least, trying to. 

P.S. For future reference, Bale, don’t ever do a comb-over.

The actor portrays Melvin Weinberg, who was at the center of the FBI’s famous Abscam sting operation in the 1970s that led to the conviction of a number of US congressmen.

Christian Bale will return as Batman opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman in a Justice League movie overseen by Christopher Nolan, according to an influential US blog.

Latino Review, which has broken a number of stories surrounding the Superman and Batman franchises in the past, says Warner Bros is desperate to bring the team behind the hugely successful Dark Knight trilogy back for its planned superhero ensemble movie. By teaming Bale with Cavill, the star of this summer’s heavily hyped Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel, the studio believes it could compete with Joss Whedon’s The Avengers II and JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII.

Latino Review says Nolan would oversee the film and sequels in much the same way as he was brought in to “godfather” Man of Steel. Snyder would also produce and possibly direct.

Bale and Nolan had previously said that last year’s The Dark Knight Rises would be their final Batman film. However, Bale told Empire magazine last year he would consider returning for a fourth instalment if Nolan came to him with a great story.

Justice League, which Warner is preparing for release in 2015, is based on the comic book that sees Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and other superheroes combining to fight Earth’s enemies. Six years ago Babe director George Miller oversaw an abandoned attempt to bring the story to the big screen, unconnected to previous films in either series and with different actors playing Batman and Superman. However, Disney-owned Marvel’s launch of several superhero films based on characters such as Iron Man, Thor and Captain America before combining them into the $1.5bn The Avengers has changed the way studios approach the genre.

Early reports from test screenings for Man of Steel have suggested Warner could have a hit on its hands. The studio has refused to comment on Latino Review’s Justice League scoop.

Christian Bale may be getting too comfortable in his role as a superhero for his own good.

The Welsh-born actor was spotted nursing an injured left arm outside an industry screening of Dark Knight in Los Angeles on Thursday.

Bale’s publicist has confirmed to the MailOnline that the Batman star was recently in a motorcycle accident, but did not elaborate further on his injury.

The Oscar winning actor attended the industry screening for the Warner Brothers film with filmmaker Christopher Nolan and composer Hans Zimmer and stayed on afterwards to answer questions from the audience.

Scruffy-faced Bale, who is often seen riding the road on his motorcycle, was wearing a sling on his left-arm and a pair of military-style camoflauge pants.

He chatted briefly with a raven-haired woman outside the screening before a security guard whisked him away from a group of autograph-seeking fans.

The hot-tempered 38-year-old has not been one to shy away from riding his bike, as his high-flying character of Batman often takes to the streets of Gotham on a two-wheeled tumbler.

He told Esquire in an interview that he gets a thrill out of riding his motorcycle and that he has a penchant for racing bikes.

‘It’s hypnotizing.  It looks simple, but you try it and you learn the nuances and you come to appreciate it incredibly,’ Bale said.

‘I love it, but I’m kinda — I’ve had a lot of falls.’

Bale has been keeping himself out of the headlines recently, taking a break after promoting the latest release in the Batman. Over the summer, the actor traveled with his wife Sibi Blazic to Aurora, Colorado where 12 people were killed and 58 others injured at a midnight showing of the Dark Knight Rises.

He met with several victims and a number of emergency doctors, police officers and paramedics who were the first responders to the shooting at the theatre.

‘Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them,’ Bale said after the shooting.

Since the shooting, the American Psycho star was last in Los Angeles in August shooting an untitled Terrence Malick project, also starring Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender and newlywed Natalie Portman.

The film is set to be released next year.
