Christian Charles Philip Bale was born on the 30th January 1974 and is an English actor. Christian first caught the public eye in 1987 at the age of 13, when he was cast in the starring role of Steven Spielberg's 'Empire of the Sun'. A young Christian played an English boy who is separated from his parents and subsequently finds himself lost in a Japanese internment camp during World War II. In 2000, he garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal of serial killer Patrick Bateman in 'American Psycho'. In 2004 Christian earned his reputation as a method actor after he lost 63 pounds to play the role of Trevor Reznik in 'The Machinist' and then had to quickly bulk up for the role of Batman for Christopher Nolan's trilogy. In 2005 'Batman Begins' was released, followed in the trilogy by the outstanding 'The Dark Knight' starring the late Heath Ledger as The Joker in 2008. The last in the trilogy 'The Dark Knight Rises' was released in 2012 with nemesis Bane played by British actor Tom Hardy. He also portrayed Dicky Eklund in the biopic 'The Fighter' in 2010 alongside Mark Walberg, for which he won several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
